PreSonus Blog

Throwback Thursday: Social Media Manager @RyanRoullard

Here’s PreSonus Social Media Manager Ryan Roullard (yours truly) back in the day, when I really believed that:

  • Choker-tight aluminum chains and soul patches were the way to a woman’s heart
  • Ironic Poison T-shirts were hilarious

I still believe the latter to be true. My responsibilities at PreSonus include management and updating of all our social media platforms, writing this very blog, pinch-hitting graphic design, and general emergency response.

Nowadays I hoard gear I find on Craigslist so that you can’t have it. Musically I produce hardware-based electronic music, score short films, and play in a heavy nerd-rock band called Protogeist.

The hits don’t stop with BREAKERBOX

[This just in from Julie at BREAKERBOX! Check out the video for their song, “Summertime,” below. BREAKERBOX are PreSonus stalwarts through-and-through, taking advantage of the Central Station Plus, FireBox, a pair of FP10s, and the HP4 in their productions.]

Just wanted to touch base with you and to thank you and the folks at PreSonus on behalf of myself and BREAKERBOX for posting the launch of the #SUMMERTIME official music video. In only a few weeks, the video has gone viral reaching currently just over 306K views!

As you know, breaking a new rock band today isn’t the easiest of tasks, Scott & Christina started their own company 2 years ago, retaining all of their own publishing and distribution rights- along with a healthy team of sponsors such as yourselves they have reached a fantastic point in their career with BREAKERBOX where industry is finally starting to pay very strong attention.

Again, thank you for the support and for the great products!

Best,
Julie Knoffler

Making the Switch: Confessions of an Ex-Pro Tools User

Think it’s hard to climb out of the Pro Tools rut? Others have kicked the habit and made the timely switch to Studio One—you can too! Founder of the popular web site homestudiocorner.com, Joe Gilder has been there and done that, and has come up with a smooth transition plan that builds on users’ years of Pro Tool experience, and takes full advantage of Studio One’s improved workflow and expanded features. Twelve-step your way in and sit down!

Joe Gilder is a freelance recording engineer and musician from Nashville. He studied recording at Middle Tennessee State University and went on to work for top music gear retailer Sweetwater Sound. While there, he became frustrated with the lack of training for home recording studio enthusiasts, so in 2009 he founded HomeStudioCorner.com, a website dedicated to helping people make better recordings.

Fab’s video goes into great detail of the entire process, including the use of both native and third-party plug-ins for Studio One, microphone selection, and placement.

Fab DuPont says: “Studio One was perfect for this project, because I knew we would be using several different kinds of interfaces and Studio One works great with all of them. Also, it’s a great tool to do both production and mixing at the same time and i knew since we had to work fast that we may have to back to recording in the middle of the mixing process.”

Sonic Sense Compares StudioLive 32.4.2AI to the 24.4.2

Sonic Sense Pro Audio is SO GOOD to us.

In this new video, they open with a nice breakdown of the workflow and feature upgrades in the new StudioLive 32.2.4AI as compared to the original StudioLive 24.4.2. They touch on Active Integration, computer-free wireless connectivity, Capture 2.1, Mute Groups, Scenes, Fat Channel updates, and more.

But they don’t stop there. They run a multi-track recording from the FoxField Four through BOTH mixers, and provide an A/B test of the stereo mix from both mixers, so you can hear the sonic improvements in the StudioLive 32.4.2AI for yourself!

Great work, guys, and thanks for your support!

WHA DAT?

Spotted this on Peter’s desk. In Baton Rouge, team spirit knows no bounds, but we had to draw the line the last time Rick showed up in full purple and gold body paint. We told him that we sent him home for a shower, but fact is it was really posed a significant health risk.

Saints fans, don’t get your hopes up… this is a one-off customization.

#PreSonuSphere Presenter: Craig Anderton!

CRAIG ANDERTON
Presenting in the Hartley Vey Workshop Theatre on Friday, Oct 25 at 1:30 p.m.
and in the Main Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 11:00 a.m.

We don’t need to tell you Craig Anderton is an authority on all things music tech, but did you know one of his primary passions has always been guitar? The author of 21st Century Guitar digs into the nitty-gritty details of getting a killer guitar tone on your recordings. Like a master class for recording guitar, Craig will take you through it all using Studio One, covering both acoustic and electric guitar. Topics will include miking techniques vs. going direct, layering, EQ, utilizing multi-band chorus, advanced amp simulation, and much more. Space is limited, get there early!

As a top-tier authority on music and technology, Craig’s resume is too darn big to even fit on our website… but we do have room to say this: He has played on, produced, or mastered more than 20 major label recordings; and played guitar and keyboards on many pop-music sessions in New York. He founded HarmonyCentral.com, has written for Electronic Musician, Keyboard, Sound on Sound (UK), Rolling Stone, and Guitar Player, as well as for himself—26 books and counting.

Rodney’s StudioLive 32.4.2AI / Studio One 2.6 Webcast With ScanProAudioTV

A while back Rodney raised the bar for live webcasts with this great collaboration with ScanProAudioTV.  We really need to work with those guys again. I mean seriously, they have a green screen and everything.

Make a sandwich and strap in; this one clocks in at about 45:00, but that just means there’s no stone un-turned in this thorough investigation into our latest and greatest.
