Simon Langford’s New Book, “Digital Audio Editing” Now Available

Whether you’re comping a vocal track, restoring an old recording, working with dialogue or sound effects for film, or imposing your own vision with mash-ups or remixes, audio editing is a key skill to successful sound production. Digital Audio Editing gives you the techniques, from the simplest corrective editing like cutting, copying, and pasting to more complex creative editing, such as beat mapping and time-stretching.

You’ll be able to avoid unnatural-sounding pitch correction and understand the potential pitfalls you face when restoring classic tracks. Author Simon Langford invites you to see editing with his wide-angle view, putting this skill into a broad context that will inform your choices even as you more skillfully manipulate sound. Focusing on techniques applicable to any digital audio workstation, it includes break-outs giving specific keystrokes and instruction in several popular DAWs, including Studio One. The companion websites include tutorials in all four software packages to help you immediately apply the broad skills from the book.

PreSonus Remembers Robert Levin

We lost a good one. Robert Levin passed away on November 25. Robert was literally raised in his dad’s music store, Chuck Levin’s Washington Music Center, and grew to eventually run the family business along with his siblings. In doing so, they maintained dad’s well-deserved twin legacies of impeccable customer service and good ol’ hard work. Before Robert’s passing, the torch was passed to his son, Adam, who share responsibilities with his siblings;  Alan and Abbe. This brings Chuck Levin’s Washington Music Center into its third generation as a family business.

Rick Naqvi recalls, “Robert was one of PreSonus’ earliest dealers, when we introduced our first product, the DCP-8. From that point forward he always offered us words of advice and encouragement in his most recognizable style as we went forward to become great business partners. Robert was one of the unique personalities in our industry, and we cherished his many contributions and of course his friendship.”

We’ll miss you, Robert. Please take a moment here with Rick to raise a glass to our departed friend.

In lieu of flowers, the Levin family has requested that donations be made to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation. If you have fond memories of Robert, as many of us do, you are welcome and encouraged to post them here.

Drum Corps International Launches Nimbit Store

Our friends at Drum Corp International  just launched their Nimbit Store on Facebook!  Just in time for the holidays, you can get DCI’s Silver Bells: A Drum Corp International Holiday Collection, which boasts percussive, marchy interpretations of yuletide melodies from time immemorial, with a peppering of  some more contemporary numbers.
At a hefty 24 tracks, Silver Bells boasts an undeniably thorough selection of tree-trimming tunes, though I would have thought that “Little Drummer Boy” would have been kind of a natural. There are tons of other recordings on their store, as well as a Blu-ray set and some other nice merch.
Furthermore, DCI is taking advantage of Fan Check-In to better engage their ever-growing community. Check-in yourself before you wreck-in yourself at fancheck.in/dci to take advantage of a special offer!
This is just the first of many great things to come as PreSonus and DCI are planning an illustrious future together. We’re excited for all great things moving forward.

Eris E8 Shines in Resolution Magazine Bench Test

The kind folks at Resoution Magazine recently put the Eris E8 studio Montiors through one of their signature, exhaustive bench tests. We’re pleased to report that Keith Holland from Resolution liked not only what he heard, but also what he measured.  Here’s a snip.

“Overall the PreSonus Eris E8 is an excellent performer, especially at low frequencies. The designers have managed to combine a protected, extended low-frequency response and low distortion with an accurate low-frequency transient response. The other aspects of the performance do not disappoint either, with good time and frequency domain responses and controlled off-axis behaviour.”

You can read the entire bench test in Resolution’s October issue, available in digital form here.
