Great Eris Review from Bonedo.De

This 4.5/5 star-review on the new Eris monitors comes to us from the informed minds at Bonedo.De. It’s in German, but savvy Google Chrome users can employ the auto-translate feature, or users of any browser can download an English translation here.

“The PreSonus Eris E5 and E8 are quality made, well equipped and good-natured active
speakers for near field. The fairly linear tuning of the boxes allows an amazingly balanced
and transparent sound reproduction, and for a very attractive price. Since the Eris E5 costs
almost half, and was able to convince most sonically, it gets awarded 5 stars.”

Bill Sage at Pro Media UltraSound on the StudioLive

[This just in from Bill Sage—Sales & Design Engineer for Pro Media Ultrasound.]

Hey PreSonus –

I used to be a touring and recording engineer. I now design and sell AV systems. I’m a busy guy, with a full-time sales job and a marriage.  I mostly do sound for friends’ bands or benefits for charities.

Here are some reasons I am liking Studio One and the StudioLive 16.0.2. I had the opportunity to use one for a benefit a few months ago.

Running Universal Control on my Apple Powerbook, I was able to quickly get set up and my mix together in a matter of minutes. I didn’t even read the manual, and it worked flawlessly—and more importantly, it sounded great!

After the gig, I read the manual… and I had no idea that the StudioLive 16.0.2 even had iPad control, which got me even more curious. I took the plunge and bought the 16.0.2.

I also put the band back together. I am playing bass and singing, the other guys are not engineers so  I am keeping busy!  I use the 16.0.2 and Capture to record basic tracks or rehearsals. Capture is great because I only have to press Record and Stop. Capture lets me concentrate on playing, instead of engineering.

Once home from rehearsal, I import the files into Studio One. Again, it is really simple to get good-sounding tracks. The software is really intuitive, so once again I didn’t read the manual much, but I did find the videos on the internet really helpful.

I have had the “big three” recording softwares at one time or another. This by far is the simplest, most intuitive mixer and software that I have ever used.

I would highly recommend the 16.0.2 and the Studio One Software to anyone.

Cheers!

#PreSonuSphere Presenter: John Storyk!

JOHN STORYK

Presenting in the Hartley/Vey Workshop Theatre on Saturday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m.

Look What the Storyk Brought: Small Venue Designs With the Man Who Practically Invented Studio Design

Okay, let’s put it this way. This is probably the only chance you’re ever going to get to learn about recording-studio design from one of the world’s most accomplished studio architect/acousticians. And he’s aware that you don’t have $100,000 to spend. This will be a practical insight into creating a project studio on a limited budget by designing it correctly right from the start. Topics include overall design geometry, acoustic volumes, windows, floor and wall surfaces, and isolation methods.

John is a registered architect and acoustician, and a founding partner of Walters-Storyk Design Group. He has provided facility planning, acoustical, and systems-design services for the professional audio-video production and performance community since the 1969 completion of Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studios in New York City. John received his architectural studies at Princeton and Columbia Universities. As an independent designer, engineer, and principal of WSDG, he has been responsible for over 3,000 world-class audio-video production facilities, including studios, radio stations, video suites, entertainment clubs, and theaters. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Audio Engineering Society (AES), and Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and is a frequent contributor to AES convention papers and professional industry periodicals.

John is a frequent lecturer at schools throughout the nation and has established courses in acoustics at Full Sail (Orlando) and Ex’Pression Center for the Media Arts (San Francisco), while maintaining adjunct professor status in Acoustics and Studio Design at the Berklee College of Music (Boston) and Stevens Institute (New Jersey).

“Within minutes of leaving last year’s PreSonusSphere, I asked to return,” John says. “The few days were very special—just the right mix of technology, education, music and food—hosted by a terrific company that has a great mission: accurate audio at affordable prices!

“We at WSDG are honored to participate again in this event,  we promise to bring even more interesting information about the environments that accompany the technology and content we all admire.”
