“The Comforter,” by Ian Ethan (Video)

Here’s innovative and versatile PreSonus Artist Ian Ethan, performing “The Comforter” in his inimitable style on an 18-string acoustic doubleneck. Ian employs a lot of extended technique and looping to great effect. This is just one man and a doubleneck guitar, but it sounds like two guitars and a drum! Regarding the recording of this work, Ian says:

“I recorded this on-location at Ceaser Photography with my FireStudio Project and a laptop, as usual – a super easy and effective portable rig. I think it may be  my best recorded double-neck sound to date, even compared to stuff I’ve recorded in big high-end studios. I’m in the middle of recording my new album as well, at home, using a daisy-chained Firestudio Mobile and FireStudio 2626 to capture all of the live loop signals as well as the various pickup and internal mic outputs from my doubleneck, along with the external mics—a Royer 121 ribbon and Miktek CV4 tube condenser. I’m thrilled with how it’s sounding so far!”

Moon Honey’s Jessica Ramsey on Memory Loss Aversion

[This just in from Jessica Ramsey of Moon Honey! She offered some insights on using the FireStudio Mobile for memory loss aversion. ]

I suffer from melody-idea-loss-aphobia: the common fear that a melody will be lost forever if not immediately recorded. That said, the FireStudio Mobile was an invaluable tool for writing vocals on my new record. In two snaps, I’d hook it up to my laptop and lay down vocal demos. Thanks to Studio One I was able to try out my ideas, mixing lead and back up vocals on top of rough instrumental tracks the boys had already recorded.

I wrote and recorded a four-part vocal harmony for “The Ship” on my own bed at 3 a.m. I exported each harmony individually, so that when it came time to officially record the seven-minute-long epic of a song, I could play them back individually and nail them in one take… almost. The tracks were also extremely helpful when it came time to perform; I had four choir singers on stage with me at our last Manship Theatre show, and they learned/practiced their parts with the demo harmonies!

Here’s “The Ship:”

We’ve got a new album in the works, if you like what you hear in “The Ship,” why not throw in a little bit over at Kickstarter? You can pre-order the dreamy rock & roll album, or even have me cook a vegan dinner for you!

Powerhouse Producer Sak Pase Chooses Studio One for New EP

The Audio Production Network just published an interview with top-shelf producer Sak Pase, AKA Sham Joseph, where he discusses his work on Jake Troth’s new EP, Double Black Diamond. Sak has production credits among several A-list artists, including but not limited to Kanye West, Jay-Z and Rhianna.
For the Jake Troth project, Sak made the switch to Studio One 2.6 Professional. This EP is not Sak’s first rodeo—he’s used Pro Tools, Logic, and Cubase in the past, and seems to have settled on his weapon of choice. Sak says:
“Genuinely, the user interface is absolutely amazing; if you are a Logic user, the transition is so easy – there is no learning curve at all. I love how it sounds, and you can do some amazing thing with the editing of audio. It’s a very exciting program; whenever you have ideas, you can just shoot it open and there is a forum where you have all these ideas and you can see your ideas help shape the program, which is very interesting.”

Hi PreSonus!

How are you? I have made this little video showing one of my drum solos from Infernal, live in Denmark. 14 tracks from FOH were mixed in Studio One.  I like the sound of the drums, and I really do hope that you will find this homemade video interesting.
Turn up the volume and listen to my mix, and please let me know what you think!
All the best
Thomas Holmen

HeatRox Entertainment Lands a Track on the Disney Channel’s “Austin & Ally”

[This just in from the always-a-gem-producer Lisa Simmons of HeatRox Entertainment. HeatRox recently had a great score, landing their new song “Living in the Moment” in a recent episode of the Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally.]
Hey Ryan!
How are you? Hope you are having a great week! We are so excited for the new Austin & Ally episode, “Sports and Sprains.” We used the PreSonus Eureka on this song. Funny story: The tracks recorded with the Eureka were intended to be for the pre-demo only… but they sounded so good that many of the background vocals recorded on the Eureka wound up in the final mix! The final song was recorded with the Ross Lynch at one of Disney’s recording studios.

We co-wrote and co-produced “Living in the Moment” with an amazing team of writers and producers: myself, (Lisa Simmons) Francisco (Flinst0ne/ Stone), Christian Salyer, Styliztik Jones, and J Scott G. We had so much fun!  On Disney’s promo you can hear the instrumental in the background, but the full song will be performed by the actor himself on the upcoming episode.
Over the weekend, “Sports & Sprains” charted at number seven on iTunes as one of the top children’s shows!
Best Regards,
Lisa & Stone
