Where can I get Studio One 3?

Lotsa places.

I would like to try Studio One 3 before I purchase it.

This is not a question, but you can try the full version of Studio One Professional 3 for thirty days by clicking here.

Can I get a version of Studio One 3 in a box with a hard copy on CD?

No. You will, however, soon be able to get a version on a USB stick installer directly from us or at your local PreSonus dealer. CDs are old hat. Studio One looks to the future!

Is Studio One 3 “purchased” via a subscription model?

No, because Studio One 3 is not a magazine or dessert-of-the-month club. Buy it and receive five activations that can be installed cross-platform.

What are the upgrade costs for owners of Studio One 2?

Existing owners can upgrade for the following USD prices. International prices will vary.

If you registered Studio One 2 between April 1, 2015 and May 20, 2015, we will upgrade you for FREE.

We understand that it sucks when you put your hard-earned money down on something only to have the new model come out a short time later. As such, we’re offering a grace period that extends back to April 1, 2015. If you registered Studio One between April 1, 2015 and May 20, 2015, we’ll upgrade you to Studio One 3 at no charge. Simply log into your my.presonus.com account after the launch on May 20th, and you will find a Studio One 3 notification that will lead you to your free upgrade.”

If you received Studio One Artist as a pack-in with one of our hardware products, simply register the product at my.presonus.com. Instead of receiving Studio One Artist 2 in your account, you will get Studio One Artist 3, automagically.

Do you still offer Studio One Free? What about Producer?

Studio One Free has been re-named Studio One Prime, and will be available in June. Producer edition has been discontinued in favor of giving you the ability to buy only the features you need via our online store.

Has the recipe in the back of the Studio One manual been updated?

Oh yes.

El productor Abraham Martínez gana el Grammy Latino por La Carta Perfecta de Danilo Montero – En Vivo usando Studio One

Abraham Martinez

Abraham Martinez

“Studio One no defrauda”, afirma Martínez.

Northern Sound and Light StudioLive 32.4.2AI Walkthrough

The kind geniuses over at Northern Sound and Light recently got their mitts on a StudioLive 32.4.2AI and cranked out this great overview video. This is an excellent primer for anyone who is considering getting a new StudioLive AI digital mixer and would benefit from a quick feature rundown.

Big thanks to Northern Sound and Light for their support!

Enter to Win a StudioLive 32.4.2AI in the “Why StudioLive” Video Contest!

Our recent “Why I Switched to Studio One” video contest was such a smashing success that we decided to kick it up a notch.

So, here’s your contest. Prime directive? Extrapolate! The whole human race deserves to know why you chose the StudioLive mixer out of the billions and billions of mixers available in our little blue corner of the galaxy. The best video, as chosen by PreSonus galactic overlords, will receive the flagship mixer of our next generation, the StudioLive 32.4.2AI—a $3,999 value.

So, again, we want videos. Billions and billions of videos! This contest shares much in common with the last contest, but with the following upgrades:

  • No online voting this time. PreSonus will choose the winning video. Last time we got a lot of fraudulent votes that we traced to an IP address in a pirate sector of Zeta Centauri.
  • The second-place winner will receive a pair of Sceptre S8 monitors, a $1,999 value.
  • Non-English submissions are welcome, but must include English subtitles to qualify for entry.
  • Please keep your videos around 1:30, 2:00 maximum. Videos even one picosecond over 2:00 will not be considered for entry.

Here’s the rest of the guidelines.

Create a video detailing why you chose the StudioLive mixer over the universe of mixers available.

  • Be specific about why you chose the StudioLive. Discuss your favorite most-used features.
  • Be mindful of the YouTube generation’s attention span. Keep it around 1:30.
  • Upload the video to YouTube, and make sure it’s set to be publicly viewable.
  • Submit your link at Facebook.com/PreSonus, using the VIDEO CONTEST application viewable under our cover photo. All fields are required. Submit by October 1, 2013 to qualify.
  • That’s it! You’re entered!

Here’s what we’re NOT in search of:

  • Nudity, profanity, violence, or any content that YouTube would remove your video over.
  • Videos that are too long. Keep it around 1:30, please.
  • “I like Studio One, AND NOW HERE’S MY BAND CHECK US OUT WE’LL BE PLAYING AT THE HOQIUAM SENIOR CENTER ON SATURDAY.” Stay on-topic.
  • If you use music in the video, it must be your own. No cover songs.
  • Film school projects/Oscar Contenders. You don’t need a Director of Photography, Hair & Makeup department, or Final Cut Pro to win. But it might help.

The grand prize winner will receive a StudioLive 32.4.2AI, and a free upgrade to Studio One Professional 2.5. If you’re already running Studio One Pro 2.5, we can connect you  with the PreSonus product of your choice as long as it’s under $300 in value.

The second place winner will receive a pair of Sceptre S8 monitors.

All video content submitted becomes the property of PreSonus Audio Electronics. Winner will be announced on or around October 2, 2013

Full lawyer-appeasing legalese can be found here.

The 32.4.2AI is light years ahead of previous StudioLive consoles, offering:

  • Double the amount of onboard internal effects buses and graphic EQs
  • Six mute groups
  • User-assignable Quick Scene buttons.
  • A Wi-Fi LAN adapter–no computer required for wireless connectivity!
  • 64 times the processing power and 10,000 times the amount of RAM of the StudioLive 24.4.2.

5 Easy Steps to Pitch Correction in Studio One

Free tutorial on using Melodyne with Studio One Professional

MacProVideo recently created a great free tutorial on using Melodyne as integrated into Studio One Professional 2, including free sample videos from their full Studio One course. If you’re interested in using the most powerful pitch correction software available—and what recordist isn’t—this is definitely worth a read. Experienced users of Melodyne may find some of this material to be a valuable refresher, as well.

Click here to check it out MacProVideo’s primer on Melodyne integration in Studio One.

Also, Studio One users of all levels will find value in the Studio One Producers and Engineers Toolbox from AskVideo. This 22-chapter series focuses on 102-level audio engineering topics like freezing tracks via Track Transform, submixing and busses, and more.

Transforming Audio with Obedia

Perhaps “Transforming Audio” isn’t the ideal nomenclature. In the DAW sense, “Transforming” is all about rendering your malleable, time-stretched, VST-, reverb- and Melodyne-saturated audio track down to a single, elegant WAV. Draw parallells less with Optimus Prime turning into a truck and more with flattening layers in Photoshop.

Transform your audio once you’ve dialed in the effects to juuuuust the way you like them—this process frees up your rapidly aging CPU from thinking about all those heady, pitch-shifty convolution-reverberizing plugins you threw at it. Freeing up RAM in this way means you can apply heady pitch-shifty convolution-reverberizing plugins to some other track. Or you can transform to MIDI.

Fortunately, if you checkmark the right li’l boxes, Transformation is non-destructive. If you’re unhappy with the changes you’ve committed to, you can always bring it back to the way it was before, much unlike my relationships with women.

When the Levee Breaks, the AudioBox Doesn’t.

We, and our advocates, make a lotta to-do about the audio quality inherent in our products. After all, every weensy component choice in the guts of our gear begets some sonic consequence, so such engineering decisions are not made lightly. Serious business. We’re proud.

But look-see. Fact is that aural clarity is not all we have going for us. Until we produced the video linked below, I feel that the straight-up toughness of our brand may have gone a bit understated. Yeah, an AudioBox is all pretty-boy brushed chrome with azure-blue mascara. But when we let a rajun cajun take a shot at curbstomping the ol’ AudioBox USB, he couldn’t put a ding in it. And when he failed, we let Optimus Prime have a stab at it to similar (lack of) effect.

SPOILER ALERT:

The AudioBox USB still worked great after all this.

Depiction of such misuse should not be construed as advocacy. BUTOMGIT’SSOFUN

It’s Dec, so it’s time for… NAMM?

Yes, I’m sure some of you are looking at that title and thinking “But isn’t the Winter NAMM show in January?” – and you would be right. But here at PreSonus, we’re already starting to get stuff ready for the show about six weeks ahead of the date. Yep, so much for the holiday season…

There’s an old music biz joke that the acronym NAMM stands for Not Available, Maybe May (or even less kindly, Maybe Movember). We took the decision a while back not to show stuff unless it was actually ready to ship, and we’re trying to stick to that, though sometimes when you have some wonderfully cool piece of technology in development it is really hard to resist the temptation to show it off. This time round we have Studio One 2.0 to show of course, and the new AudioBox VSL range, but we’re currently looking at the other stuff we have in engineering and evaluating how ready it is, and how best to debut it if it is indeed ready for prime time.

I’m pretty happy to say that I think we’ve got a couple of really cool things that we should be able to introduce at the show, so for the next weeks my head will be buried in technical notes and slideshows figuring out just how it all works and preparing to show it off. Cant wait!

Obedia’s Take on Transforming Audio in Studio One 2

Perhaps “Transforming Audio” isn’t the ideal nomenclature. In the DAW sense, “Transforming” is all about rendering your malleable, spongey, VST-, reverb- and Melodyne-saturated audio track down to a single, simple, WAV. Think less like Optimus Prime turning into a truck and more like flattening layers in Photoshop. Do so once you’ve dialed in the effects to juuuuust the way you like them—this process frees up your rapidly aging CPU from thinking about all those heady, pitch-shifty convolution-reverberizing plugins. Freeing up RAM in this way means you can apply heady pitch-shifty convolution-reverberizing plugins to some other track. Or you can Transform to MIDI.

Fortunately, if you like, Transformation is non-destructive. If you’re unhappy with the changes you’ve committed to, you can always bring it back to the way it was before, much unlike my relationships with women.
