Hey there, I’m John Taglieri from Dawg Pound Studios. Based in Hanson, Massachusetts, our studio boasts a 200 square foot live room full of drums, vintage amps, a ’64 Hammond, and close to 30 mostly-vintage guitars and basses to choose from. Our control room is full of great digital and outboard gear to help make sure we capture the music as accurately as it is performed—and make it sound amazing. I’ve produced close to 20 CDs for myself and clients, and as an engineer/producer have had two Billboard charting CDs (a #74 and a #112), a #1 single on Amazon, a total of 11 top ten singles on Amazon & iTunes, as well as a Best-Selling Alternative EP on iTunes. The studio has been touted as having a great-sounding live room, and a control room that sounds true. What you hear at the mix area is what it sounds like out in the real world as well.

One thing I’m proud of is that we use a lot of PreSonus gear in the studio. When I had my studio at its old location in New Jersey, it was very piecemeal. I started really working with PreSonus when I moved the studio to Massachusetts three years ago. I did the studio build from scratch and wanted the best gear that I would feel comfortable with. The room didn’t exist, so I worked with an acoustic engineer to get the design right, got some help from Auralex to tune it, and then chose PreSonus for workflow, live room monitoring and control room mixing. Currently I’m using the following;

For my latest EP, Days Like These, we had a great and fun situation. We assembled top musicians from all over the country, including Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, John Fogerty, Michelle Branch), Rich Redmond (Jason Aldean, Ludacris), Alan Bowers (Rachel Allyn), Chad Cunningham, as well as myself on drums. We also got Lee Turner (Darius Rucker) & Eric Ragno (Kiss, Alice Cooper) on keys and Greg Juliano on bass. Keith LuBrant, Joe Gilder & myself handled guitars, and we used writers from the US & Australia.

Tracks were cut in eight different studios around the country, as well as at Dawg Pound Studios, and on all different DAWs. We then used DropBox to get the .WAVs to Dawg Pound Studios, where Studio One Professional 2 was used to assemble and mix all the tracks. Dozens of tracks were done in-house as well as sent in. All songs started at my studio with acoustic guitar, vocals, and click tracks, and ended with final mixes. The workflow was effortless. Working with Studio One and my FaderPort, mixing was a great experience. I had just added the FaderPort to the system and I can’t tell you how much it streamlines mixing. It makes subtle mix, pan and FX moves far easier than using my trackpad. I run a tricked-out Mac Mini with a Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. We must have done something right because the EP debuted on release week on the Billboard Independent Album chart at #112, which was quite an honor.

Running PreSonus in my studio has brought my studio up to a level of quality that I can truly be proud of. I am putting out sounds rivaling any other studio thanks to the quality of my inputs, the workflow, the ease of mixing, true quality stock plugins, great preamps, and I know my clients love the custom monitoring setup in the live room during tracking. Hey PreSonus! My name is Antony BEDEZ and I’m a French studio and live sound engineer.  Recently,  my bassist brother and I made a
CD from a concert given in France with drummer Steve Ferrone, who has worked with Michael Jackson, Average White Band, Eric Clapton, Slash, and others. I’ve taken care of all
the audio process from the live sound to the mastering.

After his participation on my brother’s last album, Investigations, we decided to invite him to France and
play with him live. With many friends of ours…

FOH and monitors were all recorded via the StudioLive 24.4.2, and the multi-track recording via Capture.

Doug Gould of WorshipMD talks about how to make the best use of your sound check time and the band’s rehearsal. Prioritize accordingly and don’t lose sight of the big picture—dial in the entire band one at a time, but don’t spend too much time on little details—do that during their rehearsal.

PreSonus’ Rodney Orpheus and Sonic Sense’s Nick Batt had a great little Q&A bro-down at PLASA 2013. This was the first-ever hands-on public showing of the new StudioLive 16.4.2AI and 24.4.2AI

Rodney covers the AI part of the StudioLive AI series in great detail here, and closes with a touch on the new StudioLive AI Loudspeakers. Definitely worth a watch! Thanks to Sonic Sense for bringing Nick, as well as the camera.

In this new video, they open with a nice breakdown of the workflow and feature upgrades in the new StudioLive 32.2.4AI as compared to the original StudioLive 24.4.2. They touch on Active Integration, computer-free wireless connectivity, Capture 2.1, Mute Groups, Scenes, Fat Channel updates, and more.

[We decided it best to give some recognition to our more vocal advocates—and what better way than via a blog series?]

Who are you, where are you, and what do you do? 

Paul Peters, FOH/IEM (in-ear monitor) engineer, producer, songwriter, and performer. I’m also a PreSonus artist.
How were you introduced to PreSonus?
My experience with PreSonus started in 2008, when a church in Merritt Island, FL wanted to get a small compact console for their satellite campus.  I did research and loved the PreSonus StudioLive 16.4.2. I ordered the console, installed it, and began a love affair with PreSonus that is still strong. On multiple tours over the past five years, I was contacted by the band A Day To Remember in 2009, because the IEM system they were using failed.  I suggested the PreSonus 24.4.2.  They purchased the console and flew me to Ocala, FL to tweak it out for them.  They loved it, and I was soon hired to be their FOH/IEM engineer for two tours. After tens of thousands of miles, and countless shows, the mixer is still running strong.  Because of the quality and reliability, the PreSonus StudioLive family has been the first suggestion I make to touring bands, clubs, or houses of worship.  I have also been on tour with Sick Puppies, We Came as Romans, Otherwise, and Papa Roach.
What PreSonus software/hardware do you use and for what purpose?
Personally, I own a StudioLive 16.4.2.  I use it when I play clubs or when I mix other bands.  I purchased the mixer in 2010 and have yet to have anything go wrong with it.  I have also installed PreSonus StudioLive consoles in over 10 different venues including clubs, concert halls and houses of worship.
What’s so great about PreSonus, anyhow?
The functionality of the StudioLive consoles is where it truly shines. Great sound quality, comprehensive layout and portability makes the StudioLives great for any application.  The virtual sound check is an incredible tool. The WAV files from Capture rival most pro DAWs.  My favorite feature is Universal Control’s remote iPad mixing.  It has eliminated the need to pull an audio snake for a FOH position in just about every application.  Tweaking monitors and house is completely portable, and easy.  My iPad, router and StudioLive mixer are my best friends.
What are you working on now—or next?
Recent PreSonus adventures have been the A Day To Remember IEM mix, the Heritage FOH mix, and the Ridiculous Youth Conference in Panama City Beach.  I’m sure my next gig is right around the corner.
