Save $30 on the AudioBox USB until June 30, 2014!

[UPDATE: This offer has been extended to June 30, 2014!]

We live in a world with a million free VST plug-ins, a quarter million amp companies, racks and stacks of dusty vintage gear with true-analog vintage mojo, and new gear from hundreds of manufacturers popping up every month. For the budget-minded recordist, it can be a lot to take it at once, and settling on the right gear can sometimes be more work than making a record itself. With so many people asking so many questions about the “right” way to record, it’s a wonder Google hasn’t broken yet.

Searches for “how do I record X” often return a stormy HTML sea of online audio recording punditry. Amidst the results, however, one often finds a familiar refrain that goes something like this:

  • You don’t need that many mics
  • Simpler is better
  • Less is more

The spirit of “Less is more,” in this case, applies to both the AudioBox USB design mindset and money. Because until June 30, 2014, we’re offering $30 off of the AudioBox USB. (US Pricing, offer may vary in your local market, please check with your local distributor) There’s no rebate paperwork, no waiting period, and no searching under the front seat of the car for the receipt that you lost. Just lower prices on the AudioBox USB, the world over.

The trusty, sturdy AudioBox USB is aimed squarely at the back-to-basics recording mindset. You get two 1/4″ XLR combo jacks, ideal for recording guitar and vocals simultaneously, MIDI in and Out, Main Outs for your monitor speakers, and a headphone out. Keeping things simple also means keeping them small, and the AudioBox USB will slip right into most any laptop case for recording on the go. Furthermore, it’s USB bus-powered, which means you don’t have to worry about pesky dead batteries or AC power cables mucking up your session.

Want to record a coffeeshop gig without lugging a mixer around? Want to record a solo acoustic guitar performance from the top of a tree? Want to record an impromtu jam session while riding the bus? The AudioBox USB makes all of these ideas possible.

It also works on your ideas.

Laurel Mountain Elementary Wins Competition

Congratulations to Sara Power, music instructor at  Laurel Mountain Elementary school. She just won the National Association of Music Education’s “Music In Our Schools”Monthly competition! The Laurel Mountain Elementary Music Program, directed by Sara Power and Joan Marshall, serves grades K-5. Laurel Mountain is a school for talent development where everyone is a learner, teacher, decision-maker, and contributor.

New Coverage from Musikmesse 2014! (VIDEO)

This just in from the globetrotting portion of our crew that spent some quality time at Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany, last week. We saw a lot of old friends, shook the hands of new friends, and shot some admittedly shakey-cam videos. But hey, that’s “from the trenches,” right? it’s just like being there!

Featured in this trifecta of Cinéma vérité are the Monitor Station V2, the Music Creation Suite, the Sceptre monitors, and—perhaps most important—our incredible #GetYourHooksIn contest. Click around the video below to get all the details.

We apologize in advance for the poor audio quality.

Save $50 on the AudioBox Studio until May 31!

This instant rebate allows you to save $50 when you buy an AudioBox Studio—an everything-in-one-box recording solution for budget-minded and mobile recordists alike. Here’s what you get: An AudioBox USB 2-channel recording interface, HD7 headphones, M7 condenser microphone, and Studio One Artist. All you need to supply is creativity.

Portability is the name of the game here, as the AudioBox USB is bus powered, meaning no fumbling around with dorky old wall warts, and no recording sessions will be sacrificed to the dead battery gods.

The M7 large-diaphragm condenser mic is ideally suited for vocals and acoustic instruments, but you can put it in front of pretty well anything and confidently expect great results. The HD7 headphones allow you to monitor and mix your tracks with clarity and style.

Last but most, Studio One Artist is the award-winning DAW that offers unlimited tracks, sterling audio quality, and an intuitive drag-and-drop user interface. It will leave you wondering how people ever made music any other way back in the dark ages of 2009.

This offer is available globally and instantaneously, and there are no receipts to wrangle or forms to fill out.

“The Comforter,” by Ian Ethan (Video)

Here’s innovative and versatile PreSonus Artist Ian Ethan, performing “The Comforter” in his inimitable style on an 18-string acoustic doubleneck. Ian employs a lot of extended technique and looping to great effect. This is just one man and a doubleneck guitar, but it sounds like two guitars and a drum! Regarding the recording of this work, Ian says:

“I recorded this on-location at Ceaser Photography with my FireStudio Project and a laptop, as usual – a super easy and effective portable rig. I think it may be  my best recorded double-neck sound to date, even compared to stuff I’ve recorded in big high-end studios. I’m in the middle of recording my new album as well, at home, using a daisy-chained Firestudio Mobile and FireStudio 2626 to capture all of the live loop signals as well as the various pickup and internal mic outputs from my doubleneck, along with the external mics—a Royer 121 ribbon and Miktek CV4 tube condenser. I’m thrilled with how it’s sounding so far!”

IDJNOW shoots PreSonus Music Creation Suite, StudioLive 16.4.2AI, and AudioBox Stereo (Video)

IDJNOW was kind enough to swing by our brand spankin’ new trade show booth at NAMM this year, where they monopolized Matt Conrad and filmed him for no fewer than three videos on our new Music Creation Suite, the StudioLive 16.4.2AI, and the also-new AudioBox Stereo.

2013 ASCAP Songwriting Retreat

PreSonus was proud to be a part of the 2013 ASCAP Songwriters Retreat, held September 25th to October 4th at the 14th-century Château Marouatte in the Dordogne region of France—an inspiring place for the lyrically inclined.

And that’s the point. ASCAP has designed this retreat to bring out the best in talented writers. This year’s 30+ participants were divided into different groups, every day, to write and record, keeping collaborative spirits fresh and healthy. At the end of the session, attendees return home with renewed artistic vigor, their hearts and hard drives full of song.

In fact, a dozen of the songs written at the camp this year are already on hold for major label artists, including The Temper Trap, Kelly Clarkson, Melanie Fiona, Nylo, Jessie Malakouti, and Jon Bellion.

PreSonus was happy to provide a metric heap of equipment to foster the creative process, including:

Photos from the event follow, as well as a kind thank-you video from the songwriters themselves. You’re welcome, folks, and we hope you wrote enough hits to fill a 14th-century dining hall. Read more about it here.

SL Remote, QMix, and AB1818VSL Remote updates now available

Updated versions of SL Remote, QMix, and AB1818VSL Remote, all compatible with iOS 7, are now available for free in the Apple App store. Have fun and happy mixing!

WHA DAT?

Spotted this on Peter’s desk. In Baton Rouge, team spirit knows no bounds, but we had to draw the line the last time Rick showed up in full purple and gold body paint. We told him that we sent him home for a shower, but fact is it was really posed a significant health risk.

Saints fans, don’t get your hopes up… this is a one-off customization.
