PreSonus Blog

It’s #PreSonusFAMFriday with Jon Taylor!

In case you were wondering what ULT stands for, it’s not Ultimate Lord Taylor as today’s #PreSonusFAMFriday guy would like to think. It actually stands for Ultra Long Throw and our Sales Technician for the PreSonus Commercial division, Jon Taylor, happens to be a huge fan. We caught up with him this week while he was in Baton Rouge!

6241671040_IMG_4525How long have you worked for PreSonus?
I’ve been here since the day after I retired in May of 2015.
What’s your official job title?
Technical Sales, Commercial Division.

What’s your favorite thing about your job? Why did you choose to work here?
I love the PreSonus forum–that’s where I got my foot in the door as an admin for the forum. I love how we relate to our customers and that was the kind of group that I wanted to be a part of.

What was the first 8 track, cassette, CD or digital download you purchased?
Hooo, got me stepping into the Way-Back machine here. I honestly don’t remember, but it was probably Genesis, Invisible Touch on cassette tape.

Who’s your go to band or artist when you can’t decide on something to listen to?
Mark Knopfler or Dire Straits—it always sounds good.
What’s your go to Karaoke song?
“Proud Mary,” The Ike and Tina version; no key changes.

Everyone has a side gig, what’s yours?

I run a small, sound company in New Jersey and cater to several of the NJ/NY/DE/PA bar and party bands.  I’ve got many years behind a live console.
What instruments do you play?
I’m a sound guy, I play a band. I have other musical instruments and know how to make them work but I wouldn’t say they’re for anything other than noodling around.
What do you love about the ULT family?
This thing is like Yoda – not a good idea to judge it by its size. It has so many uses! Straight PA for a really good-sized room, monitor for one or many, talking head gig, flyable for install.
What other PreSonus products do you have?
I’ve been here a while, it’d be a shorter list to say what I don’t have. I have a full AI rig with chained RM mixers and a CS18AI, StudioLive 16 (Series III), StudioLive 24.4.2AI, Classic 16.02, Eris 4.5, FaderPort, Studio One Professional,  AudioBox 44VSL, AudioBox 1818VSL, Studio 192, DP88, DigiMax FS, AudioBox iTwo…I’m sure there’s plenty more but that’s a good list.
Why did you choose this as your favorite?
I like the entire ULT series lineup. There are so many ways you can use them. They’re just a brilliant design!

Tell us about a successful event you worked with PreSonus products.
Every year Joint Base MDL, NJ has a parade of wreaths on Memorial day. I’ve been the audio contractor for that for years. I always have a solid system that I can use for the entire event that is out of the way but still audibly beautiful. I thank My RM series mixers, AI series speakers, and iPad control for that.

What are you currently working on? What’s next for you?
Building more relationships with contractors and integrators. That’s our bread and butter. We do everything we can make sure they can trust us to help them succeed. The future has a very early step that I can’t really talk about right now so just hang on for the ride, folks!

Got any tips for working with the ULT Loud Speakers?
Keep it simple. The pattern on these doesn’t play well with creating clusters. One box in the right spot really is incredible.

Anything else you want to share?
I’m just happy to be part of such an incredible group of people. They’re like old friends to me and I never feel like I’m going to work everyday.
